Hy everyone! Been a minute. I’m introducing a new category to the blog – THURSDAY BOX OF THOUGHTS.
Just like the name, I’d be posting short insightful
ramblings blog posts every Thursday. This doesn’t mean I won’t post on the blog on other days, I would! This is just different from my usual lengthy blog posts and it’s going to be happening every Thursdays (yeah, I said that already).
One of the resolutions I made at the beginning of the year was that I was going to read a lot of books. And half of the year is almost gone and I haven’t read a single one – except wattpad books – (face palms).
So, I set myself up for a challenge at the beginning of this month to finish two books – We Are Going To Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union and Woman Thou Art Loosed by T.D Jakes. I made a deal with myself that if I finished reading those books before the end of the month, I’m going to get myself a BIG bowl of ice-cream. If you’re a regular reader on the blog, you’d understand the kind of bond that exists between me and ice-cream.
Still, I felt like I wasn’t going to take it serious so I made a picture collage and posted it on my whatsapp. Some of my contacts came for me (what I actually wanted); some said I wouldn’t, while some joined the challenge 😁
Wellllllllllllll, this is the last week of April and fam, I’m glad to announce that I’ve finished reading 3 books! Yes, I said 3! I added one more – Instincts For Graduates by T. D Jakes – to the list because I finished reading Gabrielle Union’s book in 4days (couldn’t take my eyes off it. The book is really nice! You should get it). And I’m also currently reading #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso (expect a review soon). So, Oma is getting a big bowl of ice-cream this week and chicken! because I read 3 books 😁
I’m loving this ‘delay of gratification and reward yourself’ challenge, I should do it more often. You should too!
Let’s not drool too much about my ice-cream, I’ve rambled enough. Why did I share this with you? What is my point?
You’re working so hard at your job to get up your career ladder, you’re studying to make that bombass grade and bag the certificate, you’re hustling to have enough so the future would be more comfortable for you and your loved ones.
But have you really enjoyed the ride so far???
“You are not a human doing, you’re a human being. So be: be happy, be carefree, be light, just sit and be and enjoy something you and only you want to do”.
– T. D Jakes
I read 3 books and I decided to reward myself with a big bowl of ice-cream. This might not seem like a big deal to some but it is to me. Now, get my point. It does not necessarily have to be some kind of big achievement before you think you can reward yourself.
My point is, enjoy yourself.
Life is a journey and you’re on a ride. Don’t be so obsessed with winning that you forget to take time to really smell the roses along the journey.
Once in a while, take a break. Stretch your legs and hands, refuel.
Rest and pleasure is a way to balance your drive. It is not about achieving, achieving, achieving. Do you get?
Have you achieved a goal (short-term or long-term)? How did you reward yourself?
Remember, rewarding yourself doesn’t require so much money. It could be visiting a place you’ve always wanted to visit (the zoo? the beach?) or you’ve heard of or doing something you’ve always wanted to do. It could also mean reading a book! Anything that makes you happy.
Thank you for reading and thank you for your support always! Don’t forget to stop by the blog – every Thursdays -, park your car and get refueled to keep going! 💕
Be strong, the weekend is coming! Happy weekend in advance lol. Let me go back to my ice-cream 😙

“I’ve concluded that there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor for these are the gifts from God”.
